From The Wilds Of Myakka
The vision for Skunk Ape Disc Golf Club was born from a deep love for the wild, swampy beauty of Florida. Tucked away on Burket Farms on the outskirts of Myakka City, the course winds through a working bamboo farm where towering oaks draped in Spanish moss stand guard to deflect wayward shots. This is more than just a place to play, it’s an experience shaped by nature, family, and a passion for the outdoors.
Burket Farms was established in 2019 as one of the first farms in Florida to plant Asper Bamboo, with a focus on sustainability and innovation. From the beginning, the farm has been part of something bigger by supporting agricultural research with the University of Florida and helping pioneer bamboo as a viable crop in the state. One of the owners, Tom Burket, is actively involved in this effort through his work on the board of the Florida Bamboo Growers Association.
In 2023, Tom's oldest son, Trent, discovered disc golf while finishing up high school. What started as a simple way to enjoy the land quickly turned into a shared passion with his father and his younger brother Teddy. As they spent more time walking the property, throwing discs through natural clearings and shaded hammocks, the idea took shape to build something truly special. Skunk Ape Disc Golf Club is the result of that vision.
Carved through the heart of the farm, the course blends disc golf with the raw character of Florida’s landscape. Every hole is designed to work with the terrain, offering a unique and challenging experience that feels both untamed and intentional. It’s a place where every throw is a tribute to the natural landscape of this property.
Our goal is simple: to create a fun and memorable disc golf destination while staying true to the land and keeping the experience accessible. Because the course is located on private, working farmland, we will offer an affordable day pass and seasonal membership structure designed to help cover the costs of building, maintaining, and operating the course while continuing to improve the experience year after year.
Whether you’re here for competition, connection, or just to get lost in the beauty of old Florida, we invite you to come play the Skunk.
